WAP site
A WAP is an open international standard for applications that use wireless communication. Its principal application is to enable access to the Internet from a mobile phone or PDA.
A WAP browser must provide all of the basic services of a computer-based web browser but simplified to operate within the restrictions of a mobile phone. WAP is now the protocol used for the majority of the world's mobile internet sites, known as WAP sites.
Mobile internet sites, or WAP sites, are websites written in, or dynamically converted to, WML (Wireless Markup Language) and accessed via the WAP browser.
WAP Technology allows providing the sufficient information about the company and services, as well as an access to services that exist on the main website. At the same time, a WAP site can be an independent project and provide some services to the mobile phone owners: for example, a directory of mobile content, chat, information about the exchange rate or the weather, etc.
Particularities of a WAP site development:
- The WAP site development takes less time compared to full-scale web project, but the WAP site must be adapted for the common screen sizes and resolutions of various phones.
- The WAP site design is concise and focuses primarily on the convenience of showing the information on small pages. As a rule, its design is created on the basis of the corporate web site, but excluding all excess and complex elements.
- A content management system (CMS) is created a for a WAP site, as well as for any modern web project, that allows the owner to alter the structure, navigation and content of a WAP site. Depending on the requirements of a particular project it’s also possible to develop and include some specific services.
